As an independent, not-for-profit organization, L’Alliance New York’s mission is to provide our members and students with engaging French language classes and audacious multi-disciplinary programming that celebrates the diversity of francophone cultures and creativity around the world.

L’Alliance New York is internationally known for offering the largest selection of fully-immersive French language courses for students aged one to 101, and for its renowned cultural programming including the annual Bastille Day celebration that takes place on New York's famed Madison Avenue, attracting over 50,000 visitors each year; the Crossing The Line arts and performance festival that engages NYC cultural institutions in bringing dynamic international artists to audiences; Animation First, the biggest animation festival in the U.S; and the Comic Arts Fest, celebrating the intersection of American and francophone comic arts. 

Position Overview
The Language Center of L’Alliance New York is seeking passionate and qualified French as a Foreign Language (FLE) instructors to join our dynamic teaching team. We are recruiting teachers for both our Adult Programs and Children & Teen Programs (ages 1–17), offered at our two campuses in Manhattan (NY) and Montclair (NJ).

Our programs include:
  • À Petits Pas (APP): Ages 1–4
  • Kids & Teens (K&T): Ages 5–17
  • Adults Program
Teaching assignments are in-person and scheduled during weekdays, evenings, and weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, student-centered French lessons tailored to learners’ age and proficiency levels.
  • Create a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that fosters communication, curiosity, and confidence in French.
  • Incorporate technology and authentic cultural materials into lessons to promote interactive and immersive learning.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to learners and/or parents.
  • Collaborate with the Language Center team and participate in training sessions, pedagogical meetings, and events.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grading records, following internal procedures.
  • Serve as an ambassador of francophone cultures and L’Alliance New York’s educational mission.
Schedule & Availability
  • Children’s classes: Weekdays, 9:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
  • Adult classes: Primarily evenings, 5:45 p.m.–9:00 p.m. (some morning/daytime sessions may be available).
  • Saturdays: 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
This is an hourly-paid, part-time position with variable schedules depending on enrollment and program needs.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Minimum 6 months of teaching experience with children, teens, and/or adults in the same institution.
  • Degree in Teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE) — Master FLE, DAEFLE, or equivalent; or a degree in Elementary Education.
  • Demonstrated ability to create dynamic and communicative learning environments.
  • Excellent classroom management, adaptability, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with digital teaching tools and technology-assisted learning.
  • Native-level fluency in French and minimum B1 level in English (CEFR).
  • Must hold valid U.S. work authorization ( L’Alliance New York does not sponsor visas for teaching positions ).
