Under general supervision of the Education Administrator I (EA I) in the Professional Learning Support and Monitoring Office (PLSMO) and Director of the Professional Learning Support Division, and working cooperatively with program units and managers throughout the California Department of Education (CDE), the Education Programs Consultant will work as a team leader, team member and/or independently to implement kindergarten through grade twelve physical education (PE) program requirements in alignment with state requirements and in support of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. This includes supporting statewide compliance program monitoring and technical assistance to local educational agencies. Travel is required

This position will conduct program monitoring of PE in on-site and on-line reviews to implement the vision, mission, and goals of the State Board of Education, the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the CDE. In addition, the EPC will provide and create technical assistance materials and respond to field inquiries; utilize the Compliance Management Tool to convey findings and resolve findings of noncompliance; and develop, conduct, and participate in professional learning, workshops, presentations, and other information dissemination activities on PE requirements at meetings, conferences, and other venues on programs administered by the PLSMO to promote educational techniques which are expected to improve performance and promote student well-being through monitoring activities, trainings, consultations, and communications.

The EPC is required to stay current on state and federal legislation, such as the Every Student Succeeds Act. Additional duties include reviewing, analyzing, and preparing reports and documents such as proposed legislation, statutes, research, and other business communications, including official correspondence requiring executive or managerial signatures.

Working Conditions

TELEWORK OPTION

HYBRID

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. Currently, the hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

IN OFFICE POSITION

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and requires the incumbent to report to the office five days a week. This position is not eligible for telework.

Special Requirements

This position requires the incumbent to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) in regards to PE; develop and maintain knowledge and skills related to PE requirements, laws, and best practices; complete assignments in a timely and efficient manner; and, adhere to departmental policies and procedures.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as analytical and organizational skills

Experience teaching and overseeing K-12 educational settings and/or with school districts, county offices of education, higher education, especially in PE

Knowledge of state programs and funding

Knowledge and expertise in standards-based curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development in schools and districts

Ability to work effectively in both independent and diverse team environments
